چکیده

Methods Prospective cohort study conducted at the Hospital Universitario del Tajo between September 1, 2011 and September 1, 2014. Two groups were created. A Control Group (CG) involving all central catheters access cannulated between 1 September 2011 and 1 September 2012. The following year the ultrasound was entering in the ICU. The second group, ultrasound group (UG), including all central catheters access cannulated between 1 September 2013 and 1 September 2014. Catheter and localization, the use of ultrasound, date of insertion and removal were collected, major bleeding, pneumothorax, and catheter bacteremia. For statistical analysis, SPSS v20.0 for comparison of qualitative variables the c2 test and Student ́s t test was used for quantitative variables. For rate analysis program Epidat 4.1 was used.

Ultrasound Applications in Critical Care Medicine

The use of ultrasound has expanded enormously over the last two decades in critical care research and practice. Despite the fact that the method has several inherent limitations and is largely operator dependent, it enables clinicians for rapid, by-the-bed, and relatively inexpensive diagnostic evaluation of unstable patients. Point-of-care ultrasound applications such as lung ultrasound are gr...

Ultrasound guided central vascular access in neonates, infants and children.

Ultrasound guided central venous cannulation is rapidly becoming the standard technique for achieving a central line in neonates, infants and children. Older techniques such as surgical cutdown and 'blind' percutaneous venipuncture have many disadvantages: they are time consuming, vein consuming and/or associated with dangerous immediate or late complications. On the other hand, ultrasound has ...

Comparison Between Open and Ultrasonography Guided Venous Access Ports in Children with Malignancy

Background: Long-term central venous access is used in children for various reasons specially for delivering chemotherapy. Since vessels in children have smaller diameters, they are more prone to injury and complications such as thrombosis. Different methods are used for implantation of port-a-cath in children. We aimed to compare the complications of insertion of central venous access ports be...

Ultrasound for central venous, arterial and peripheral venous cannulation in the pediatric population

Adequate vascular access remains a key component of perioperative care. Various factors including obesity, prolonged hospitalizations, and associated co-morbid conditions can magnify problems with vascular access. Although used initially to facilitate central venous access, ultrasound is being used more commonly to facilitate arterial and even peripheral venous access. This practice has been fa...

Novel Ultrasound Guidance System for Real-time Central Venous Cannulation: Safety and Efficacy

INTRODUCTION Real-time ultrasound guidance is considered to be the standard of care for central venous access for non-emergent central lines. However, adoption has been slow, in part because of the technical challenges and time required to become proficient. The AxoTrack(®) system (Soma Access Systems, Greenville, SC) is a novel ultrasound guidance system recently cleared for human use by the U...
